TING CHAONG-WEN

Ting Chaong-Wen is a multimedia artist who creates spatial installations with images, video and sound. His works are often inspired by personal experiences and often include prefabricated objects that become part of a specific historical narrative in the exhibition context. By deconstructing, interpreting and reinterpreting our collective history, he explores prevailing values and historical conflicts resulting from, for example, colonialism or migration.

Through his multimedia installation Cocoa Solar Farm(2023), Ting explored the current challenges facing Taiwan cocoa production with the development of agrivoltaic farming. In the southern region of Pingtung, solar panels can bring shade to cocoa trees while producing energy. In turn, chocolate can be used in the fabrication of solar panels. The artist experimented the introduction of cocoa bean extracts as the dye for the next generation of solar cells, showcasing Pingtung as an emerging cocoa bean production area in Taiwan.
