JIANDYIN COLLECTIVE

The collaborative interdisciplinary artists and curators team have been living and working in Ratchaburi, Thailand since 2002.

They have been developing research-based artworks and artistic fieldwork through collaboration and social engagement. In particular, they founded Baan Noorg Collaborative in 2011 to favor alternative interdisciplinary art program for developing contemporary art and cultural production for local and global community. Their work featured in Documenta 2022.

For this project, Jiandyin, in collaboration with Baan Noorg Collective, have investigated a site-specific cacao farm in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, in Thailand. This farm started cacao plantation with the sprouts given by the Department of Agriculture in 1989 under the government plan to support farmers after the Gay Typhoon hit the area. The farm has expanded ever since. The artists are using the LIDAR technology to map the geology of the plantation, and to reveal the invisible layers of the landscape.
